MHS Class of 1964 Memorial Plaque

“Today is the fruition of my drive to make sure those who served are remembered and preserved in the history of Moorestown. It is with pleasure and honor to announce that Moorestown High School is now a part of the healing process of those of us who served during the Vietnam era…and [were] never welcomed home.”  - Bruce Deisinger, November 9, 2016

Plaque Side

The story of the MHS Class of 1964 Memorial Plaque is rooted in the experience of many veterans of the Vietnam War…one of service and sacrifice…of rejection and remembrance. It is the experience and efforts of one member of the MHS Class of 1964 and Vietnam War veteran, Mr. Bruce Deisinger, that represents the driving force which lead to the development, creation and display of this unique and important memorial.

You can read about Bruce’s story in this article from the Burlington County Times.

The MHS Class of 1964 Memorial Plaque serves to remember and honor those members of the MHS Class of 1964 who served our country in the Armed Forces of the United States during the Vietnam era. The names of these graduates are enshrined on the MHS Class of 1964 Memorial Plaque on display in the high school’s main lobby. A listing of those names is available for review by clicking on the link below. The veterans who appear on the MHS Class of 1964 Memorial Plaque will be identified by a “P” in the Panel Location column.

One of those Class of 1964 schoolmates who served during the Vietnam War - Roger A. Ross - gave his life in the service of our country. His name - and the names of other fallen brethren - are also honored in the Moorestown High School Gold Star Roll of Honor.

About the MHS Class of 1964 Memorial Plaque

From the Fall of 2015 to November 2016, Mr. Bruce Deisinger and Mr. Richard Calhoun - both 1964 MHS graduates and Vietnam War veterans - worked with the MHS administration, MHS Veterans Memorial Committee and the MHS Home & School Association to develop, design and receive approval to present a memorial plaque to Moorestown High School. In collaboration with Michener’s Engraving of Ephrata, PA, a wooden plaque with metal plates affixed was created…funding for which was provided by private donations from MHS Class of 1964 members, families and friends.

Plaque Presentation

Plaque Inscription: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.” – President John F. Kennedy

The completed plaque was presented to Moorestown High School by MHS Class of 1964 President, Mr. Wayne Winner, during a special Veteran’s Day Ceremony on November 9, 2016.

A link to the plaque presentation portion of the ceremony is provided here. (transcript)

During the Winter of 2017, it was determined that the memorial plaque needed additional updates to both add newly-found names of classmates who served and to better reinforce the plaque to withstand the varying temperatures of the MHS Main Lobby. The updated and refurbished plaque was returned in October 2017 and reinstalled in the MHS Main Lobby…where it is once again proudly available for public viewing.
