Many colleges and universities offer various scholarships and awards to students who intend to pursue further education at their particular school. Beginning in October, please feel free to check in the Guidance Office for updated information on available scholarships. Also check the bulletin boards around the school for scholarship information.

2019-2020

Rosen & Ohr Scholarship for Those Affected by a Serious Injury:
The law firm of Rosen & Ohr is offering a scholarship for students in 2020.  The scholarship is to help any student who has been impacted by being seriously injured (or by a family member being seriously injured).  To apply, students must write a 750-1,000 word essay in response to the following prompt: 

"Write an essay explaining in detail how a serious accident involving you, a family member, or a close friend has impacted your life. This could have been a car crash, a slip-and-fall accident, a work-related injury, or any other serious accident. How has this injury impacted your college plans?"

Women's History Month Essay Contest:

The Elizabeth Ann Seton Center for Women's Studies at Seton Hall University is sponsoring its 24th annual high school essay contest in celebration of Women's History Month.  It is open to all high school students in New Jersey.  All submissions must be postmarked no later than February 24, 2020.  For more information regarding the essay contest, including the essay topic, see Ms. Berger in the Guidance Office.  You may also email Ms. Mary McAleer Balkun, Professor of English, at mary.balkun@shu.edu.

Wyland National Art Scholarship Challenge:

The University of Texas at Dallas offers The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program:

The McDermott Scholars Program supports students who excel in scholarship, leadership, service and character with exceptional educational and extracurricular experiences.  Read all about it from the students' perspectives in the McDermott Blog.  The McDermott application deadline is December 12, 2019.  Applicants should also submit their application to UT Dallas by December 1, 2019.  Finalists will be invited to attend selection weekend Feb. 27-March 1, 2020, at UT Dallas.  Contact them at 972-883-4610 or mcdermott@utdallas.edu if they can help you with the application.

OppU Achievers Scholarship:

The OppU Achievers Scholarship celebrates achievement in its many forms and honors those who create opportunity for themselves and others.  Founded in 2016, the scholarship provides $2,500 for current or future education costs.  Scholarship selections are made four times a year.  Annually, the OppU Achievers Scholarship awards a total of $10,000 to students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement.  To apply for the OppU Achievers Scholarship, submit a short essay responding to the prompted question from the OppU Achievers Scholarship web page.

Winners for the OppU Achievers Scholarship are selected four times a year, with submission deadlines on September 30, December 31, March 31, and June 30.  To be eligible for the OppU Achievers Scholarship, a student must:
•Be enrolled full time in high school or at least part time in college, graduate, professional, or trade school.
•Possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0.

The University of Alabama Scholarship Deadline is December 15, 2019:

Applicants to the University of Alabama who wish to be considered for merit-based scholarships offered by the University must submit all application materials by December 15.  The last standardized tests they will accept for automatic scholarship consideration are the February ACT and SAT.  Those students who apply in December and are admitted by December 15th who wish to be considered for other competitive scholarships at UA must also submit the supplemental scholarship application no later than January 1, 2020.  Students admitted after December 15th will still be eligible for automatic merit scholarships.  Transcripts containing 7th semester grades will be considered if the student is eligible for an automatic merit scholarship or can be upgraded from a previous award they received upon admission with a higher GPA.  Step-by-step instructions for the scholarship application can be found here.  Final scholarship offers will be mailed to recipients in March.  For complete information about The University of Alabama’s academic scholarship offerings, please click here.

Distracted Driving Family Plan Scholarship:
The Parnall Law Office is proud to offer the 2020 Scholarship Program that is designed to help interested high school (upon graduation from high school) or college students in the United States to attend an institution of higher education, while also bringing to attention to the dangers of distracted driving.  $5000 in prizes will be awarded to the top 3 applicants.  Start of Submission of Application: January 1st, 2020; Deadline of Submission of Application: March 17th, 2020.  See Ms. Berger in the Guidance Office for more information.

2020 Congressional Seminar Essay Contest for High School Students:

Cedar Crest College Offers Departmental Scholarships:

In less than one week students will have the opportunity to attend Cedar Crest College's annual Departmental Scholarship Day.  They don't want them to miss this amazing opportunity to explore and experience up to two of their academic areas of interest and potentially be selected to earn one of their four year, $1,500 departmental scholarships.  At Departmental Scholarship Day students will spend an hour and a half with faculty in their academic area of interest.  Faculty will focus on departmental offerings and have them participate in a hands on experience which will be used to evaluate the student for a scholarship.  Last year, Cedar Crest awarded over 100 Departmental Scholarships to qualifying students!  Departmental Scholarship Day will take place Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.  Students are encouraged to attend and not miss out on this amazing experience!  Learn more: Experience Descriptions.  For more information contact Cedar Crest College's Admissions Office at admissions@cedarcrest.edu.

NJCPA Offers Accounting Scholarship:
The NJCPA Scholarship Fund awards $7,000 scholarships to college-bound New Jersey high school seniors intending to major in accounting or obtain a concentration in accounting which includes not less than 24 accounting credits.  Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, standardized test scores, essay and personal interview.  Deadline to apply is December 11, 2019.  For more information go to:  https://njcpa.org/become-a-cpa/scholarships/four-year.

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship:

The online application for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is now available at jackierobinson.org.  The JRF application is the vehicle through which more than 4,000 talented young minority high school students apply to become JRF Scholars and carry on the civic-minded legacy of the Foundation’s namesake, Jackie Robinson.  The deadline to submit the application for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is February 1, 2020 by 5:00 pm ET.

To be eligible for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must:
Be a graduating, minority high school senior
Plan to attend an accredited and approved four-year institution within the United States
Show leadership potential
Demonstrate a dedication to community service
Present evidence of financial need
Be a United States Citizen
Have a minimum SAT score of 1,000 combined on the math and critical reading sections or a composite ACT score of 21
Not possess a degree from a 2 or 4-year college when applying for the scholarship

Drexel University Offers a Variety of Scholarships:
Drexel University is committed to the success of our students, and we are proud to offer applicants a variety of merit and special interest scholarships.  Merit scholarships are granted to incoming students based on superior academic performance.  Students are automatically considered for merit scholarships during the admissions process.  There are also special interest scholarships that your students may be eligible for with an additional application.  Students are encouraged to visit Drexel's Undergraduate Scholarships page to view a full listing of opportunities. Neumann University Offers Scholarships:
Neumann University in Aston, Pennsylvania, offers thousands of dollars in scholarships each year, including generous merit-based scholarships ranging from $7,000 to $17,000.  For more information visit Neumann University's web page.

Thomas Jefferson University Offers Full-Tuition Scholarship:
Thomas Jefferson University is pleased to invite a select number of students to compete for a full-tuition scholarship at their College of Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) Scholarship Day.  If you are a smart, creative senior high school student who may be interested in a full-tuition scholarship, Jefferson would love for you to register and participate!  The scholarship is available to students interested in CABE majors only – Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Architectural Studies and Construction Management.

During CABE Scholarship Day prospective students and applicants will learn the Jefferson way - a way that is hands on, collaborative and connected to the real world.  Participants will work on a collaborative project with Jefferson faculty and other prospective students.  One of the participating students will earn a full-tuition scholarship to Jefferson University.  Registration is limited, giving each participating student great opportunity.

The event takes place on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Jefferson - East Falls Campus.  In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students:
Must submit an application for admission to a CABE major no later than November 16, 2019.
Must be present to participate in all of the required activities on the date of the event.
Submit the following items, postmarked by December 6, 2019: 
o Supporting application materials (official high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, essay an letter of recommendation)
o Follow-up assignment

University of Dayton Offers Art Scholarship:

Emory University Offers Their Emory Scholar Program: 
Emory University believes the criteria for a merit scholarship goes way beyond GPA and test scores.  They invest in students who have creative minds, are intellectually curious, and are engaged with their communities and areas of interest.   Emory Scholars are typically the students you describe like this: “I have never met a student this curious, engaged, bright, accomplished, and kind, all wrapped into one.”  Emory University is looking for broadly talented individuals who have made the absolute most of the opportunity and resources available to them.  They are looking for:  impactful character, intellectual and personal vigor, outstanding academic achievement, masterful communication skills, formidable leadership and creativity in school or the community, and high potential for enriching the lives of peers at Emory.

The Emory Scholars Program is more than just a merit scholarship.  In addition to full tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board, Emory Scholars often enjoy many of these benefits:

Rider University Offers Full Tuition Scholarship:
Rider University's College of Business Administration's Center for Entrepreneurial Studies presents:  The Norm Brodsky Business Concept Competition.  The winner will receive a 4-year, full tuition scholarship to Rider University.  Deadline is November 17, 2019.  For more information please go to:  rider.edu/BrodskyCompetition.

Susquehanna University Offers Creative Writing Scholarships:
Susquehanna University offers Creative Writing scholarships of up to $5000 per year, for four years.  To apply, seniors should send Susquehanna University an entrance portfolio if they haven’t already.  For more information and to apply visit Susquehanna University's Creative Writing Scholarships page.

2019-20 Coolidge Scholarship:  
The Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation encourages interested high school juniors to apply for the 2019-2020 Coolidge Scholarship.  Students can apply at https://coolidgescholars.org/.  The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the United States.  Any high school junior who plans on enrolling in college in the fall of 2021 and is an American citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply (unfortunately current high school seniors are not eligible to apply).  The Coolidge Foundation also invites a number of the top applicants to participate in its Coolidge Senators Program.  The scholarship application, along with additional information, can be accessed at https://coolidgescholars.org/.  Please note the deadline is January 16, 2020.  If you have any questions regarding the scholarship, the Coolidge Scholars Program can be reached by email at coolidgescholars@coolidgefoundation.org or by phone at (202) 827-4291.

The Disabled American Veterans Department of New Jersey will be awarding three $1500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors for post high school education (college, community college, trade school, etc.).  The Scholarship Committee has established the following criteria for eligibility:

2. Applicant must be a natural or adopted descendant of a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Dept. of NJ (Sons, Daughters, Grandsons, Granddaughters, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins).
3. Applicant must be a Graduating High School Senior.
4. Applicant must submit in his or her own words an Essay of no more than 500 words on: “WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO END HOMELESSNESS IN OUR COUNTRY?”
5. Application and essays must be typed or printed legibly in its entirety.
6. Applicant may submit only ONE Application.
7. Applicant must sign and date authentication. Parent/Guardian signature is also required if applicant is under the age of 18.

Moorestown Local Scholarship Program and Application:
As a graduating member of the MHS Class of 2019, seniors are invited to apply for the pool of local scholarships that will be awarded at the 2019 Senior Recognition Reception on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.  There are a variety of scholarships available based on criteria such as intended major, type of post-secondary school, financial need, and character attributes of students.  Each scholarship that is offered is defined by the benefactor of the scholarship and may also require a personal interview in order to potentially receive an award.  

The Moorestown community, graduates, and families connected to MHS have offered awards totaling more than $125,000 continuously for several years.  If you are interested in learning about specific scholarships, please feel free to contact the principal's office for a copy of scholarships that have been offered in the past or to learn more about the selection process.

Rancocas Valley Chapter of The Links, Incorporated 2019 Annual Scholarship:
The Rancocas Valley Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is pleased to announce their 2019 Annual Scholarship.  The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946.  The membership consists of more than 15,000 professional women of color in 288 chapters located in 42 states, the District of Columbia the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom.  It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.  Awards are based on a combination of GPA, Community Service, and Recommendations.  Applications will be available Friday, February 22, 2019 in the Guidance Office.  The deadline for completed applications to be returned to Guidance is Friday, March 29, 2019.  Notification of awards will be made no later than Friday, April 19, 2019.  Recipients are required to attend an acceptance breakfast on Saturday, May 18, 2019.  Family members are encouraged to attend.

Richard C. Goodwin-Josiah DuBois Humanitarian Award:
This award is given in honor of a local hero who stood up against the evils of Nazi Germany and whose actions led to the rescue of more than 200,000 Jews during the Holocaust.  The Richard C. Goodwin-Josiah Dubois Humanitarian Award is given to deserving students who exemplify the outstanding attributes of Josiah Dubois.  All High School Students, grades 11-12, who participate in clubs or activities that work for tolerance, humanitarianism, and respect for all, are eligible to apply.  Application Deadline - May 3, 2019.  Visit the Richard. JDRF Student Athlete Scholarship:
JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.  JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with scientific resources, regulatory influence and active strategy to better treat, prevent and eventually cure T1D.  The scholarship will be awarded on behalf of the JDRF Golf Committee at the chapter's Golf Tournament to be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Tavistock Country Club in Haddonfield.  Applicant must be Type 1 Diabetic (T1D); graduating senior with a GPA of 3.25 minimum, and participate in 1 or more sports.  Deadline is May 10th.

The 2019 Samuel A. Green Scholarship:
Firstrust Bank is once again excited to present college-bound seniors with the Samuel A. Green Scholarship Program (“SAG”).  This year, Firstrust Bank celebrated the 50th Anniversary of awarding scholarships to aspiring students in their community.  The SAG Scholarship Program was created in loving memory of their founder, Samuel A. Mesothelioma Help Scholarship:
Carrie Butler, the scholarship coordinator for the Mesothelioma Help Cancer Scholarship, is announcing their 2019 scholarship, which asks applicants to write an essay in response to one of the following prompts:  1. Share your personal story dealing with asbestos disease or cancer.  Talk about how it affected your life and how/whether it impacted your education/career choice.  2. The Pi Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and People Motivating Others, Inc. Any female who would be interested in a chance to be the 2019 Miss St. Patrick of Burlington County and hold place of honor in the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Parade may submit an application.  The chosen recipient will be crowned by this year’s Parade Grand Marshal, at the Grand Marshal Dinner in February 2019.  On Saturday, March 2, 2019, she will ride at the front of the Burlington Co St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Mt Holly, New Jersey.  Additionally, the winner will receive a scholarship award in the amount of $500.  Interested applicants should be between the ages of 15 & 23.  For a list of requirements and an application, see Ms. Berger in the Guidance Office.  Entries must be submitted by February 15, 2019. Harcum College Offers Art/Design & Photography Contest:
Harcum College is offering thousands of scholarship dollars to the winners of the first annual Art & Design Contest created for prospective Digital Design and Photography students.  This year’s contest theme is “Endless Beginnings.”  Contestants are asked to represent the theme using any visual art medium or to depict the theme using any photographic image, color or black and white.  All entries must be uploaded to the Harcum College website at harcum.edu/contest.  The contest is open to all high school and transfer students planning to attend Harcum College in Fall 2019.  Deadline to enter is February 28, 2019.  Winners will be selected in each of two categories: Art/Graphic Design and Photography.  Harcum College Scholarships to be awarded are as follows: $5,000 to first-place winner; $2,500 to second-place winner; $1,000 for third-place winner; and $500 for honorable mentions.   Entries will be judged on originality and adherence to theme.  Judges will be professional designers and photographers.  One entry per student per category. 2018 Moorestown High School Local Scholarship Application:
As a graduating member of the MHS Class of 2018, you are invited to apply for the pool of local scholarships.  There are a variety of scholarships available based on criteria such as intended major, type of post-secondary school, financial need, and character attributes of students.  Each scholarship that we offer is defined by the benefactor of the scholarship and may also require a personal interview in order to potentially receive an award. 

The Moorestown community, graduates, and families connected to MHS have offered awards totaling more than $125,000 continuously for several years.  If you are interested in learning about specific scholarships, please feel free to contact the principal's office for a copy of scholarships that have been offered in the past or to learn more about the selection process.  The MHS Local Scholarship Application will be used to collect information about students who wish to be considered for local scholarships and awards to be given to students pursuing college, university or trade school.  This application will collect personal data, academic information, and completion of a few essay questions.  Please plan accordingly as you work through the application.  You should be able to submit and return to your form, provided you use the same account to complete the form.

SPARK Mobile App Contest:
The Simons Foundation Powering Autism Research for Knowledge (SPARK) and Pace University’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems have partnered to launch the SPARK Mobile App Contest.  Registration for the contest is now OPEN!  Teams of high school and college students across the United States, up to graduate level, are invited to participate in this virtual contest to design and create mobile applications to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder, their family members and caregivers.   SPARK contestants will have the opportunity to submit for “best overall app” for a cash prize of  $25,000.  Other prizes that will be awarded to individuals/teams are in the categories of best app design ($1,000), best prototype app ($2,000) and best production-level app ($5,000).  These three prizes will be awarded separately for high school, undergraduate and graduate individuals/teams.  No experience in mobile app development or mobile friendly websites is required to enter.  The SPARK contest is looking for the best ideas, concepts, and creativity to support SPARK’s mission. Rolling Thunder, Inc. Offers Veterans Scholarship:
Rolling Thunder Inc. New Jersey Chapter 2 will award a $1000 scholarship for post high school education to three veteran dependent graduating seniors residing in and attending high school in Burlington County, Monmouth County, or Ocean County, New Jersey.  Rolling Thunder Inc. New Jersey Chapter 2 is a non-profit organization dedicated to the POW-MIA issue and helping all American veterans and their families.  For more details and to apply, see Ms. Berger in the Guidance Office.  Application deadline is March 31, 2018.

2018 New Jersey Business Idea Competition:

John S. Martinez Scholarship for Hispanic High School Students:
The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) is pleased to announce the NHCSL-Comcast Scholarship Initiative for Hispanic High School Students.  This scholarship initiative is part of NJCSL's John S.
