RCBC Offers Entrepreneurship Competition:
Rowan College of Burlington County offers the Startup Stars Competition to high school students in Burlington County and to RCBC students.  Do you have an original business idea?  Would you like to win a cash prize for your business idea?  Do you aspire to run your own company one day?  You may be a Startup Star!  To be considered for the Startup Stars Competition, you must submit your business plan models online by January 4, 2019.  Interested participants should visit rcbc.edu/startupstars for more information and to register.  The top finalists from both student groups will compete for first, second and third place cash prizes and awards.

Rutgers Offers Oncology Olympiad:
The Oncology Olympiad is a regional academic high school competition that invites students with an interest in biomedical sciences and related fields to showcase their knowledge in oncology.  For more information visit http://cinj.org/olympiad.  Registration closes on 12/15/18.

Savannah College of Art and Design Offers the SCAD Challenge for a Chance at a Scholarship:
Students can put their artistic vision on display for the opportunity to earn a scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), The University for Creative Careers.  The SCAD Challenge competition is open to current juniors and seniors in high school as of the 2018-19 academic year.  Entries must demonstrate creativity, innovation and a strong understanding of aesthetics.  A panel of SCAD faculty will review and evaluate submitted entries, and three winners will be selected from each category.

SCAD Challenge categories: 2-D design, 3-D design and modeling, Animation and game design, Fashion, Film, Graphic design, Performing arts, Photography, Writing.  The next step for junior and senior entrants is to complete an undergraduate application for admission.  Online applications and SCAD Challenge entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. ET Friday, Feb. 1, 2019.  Winners will be announced March 8, 2019.  Learn more about the SCAD Challenge.

Lockheed Martin Engineering Seminars:

W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute Offers Accelerated Learning Academy (ALA):
The W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute at Princeton University offers the Accelerated Learning Academy (ALA), which is three weekends of interactive workshops from STEM fields for 10th and 11th graders.  The three STEM tracks offered are:  Medical Science, Biomedical Engineering & Technology, and Applied Mathematics.  The program is offered from Fridays at 6 p.m. to Sundays at 2 p.m. on December 7 - 9, 2018, March 1 - 3, 2019, and April 26 - 28, 2019.  For more information and to apply visit www.duboisscholars.org or duboisscholars.org/apply.  Deadlines:  Applications and supplementary materials due by November 9, 2018.

Construction Industry Career Day:
The 2019 Construction Industry Career Day will be held at the NJ Convention & Expo Center in Edison, NJ on May 28, 2019 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.  and May 29, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (May 29 is "Just Juniors" and students must be from a school group).  For more information and to register visit www.cicdnj.org.

2019 New Jersey Junior Science & Humanities Symposium at Rutgers University:
Students are invited to participate in the Rutgers University Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, a science fair for high school students interested in science, mathematics, and technology research.  Students who have undertaken their own scientific research, underclassmen who intend to conduct research in the future, and high school teachers are invited to attend the symposium on the campus of Rutgers University’s School of Engineering in Piscataway, NJ.  This year’s Symposium will take place March 4 - 5, 2019

Students who have conducted scientific research submit research papers to the competitive portion of the program. These students must submit abstracts of 200 words or less detailing their work by December 1, 2018.  By December 15, 2018, students must also submit a short video (2 minute maximum) presenting their answers to the following questions: (1) What did you know about your research? (2) What did you not know about your research? (3) Why is your research important?  They then must submit full research papers of their work by January 4, 2019 (All Teacher/Student Registrations are due on January 4, 2018 as well).  Based on the research papers, their panel of judges selects up to 20 of the top students as Finalists, who are chosen to give oral presentations of their work at our symposium in March.  The judges will also select up to 50 other students as Poster Finalists, who will give poster presentation of their work at their symposium.  Oral Finalists compete for up to 3 all-expense paid trips to the 2019 National Symposium, as well as Scholarships of $2,000; $1,500; or $1,000.  The top 2 Poster Finalists compete for 2 all-expense paid trips to nationals and additional prizes.

Students who have not yet conducted research or are just beginning projects are welcome to attend the symposium as observers.  On the first day of the symposium (March 4, 2018), all student researchers and sponsoring teachers participate in the symposium.  On the second day (March 5, 2018), all student researchers, observers, and sponsoring teachers participate in the symposium.  The first day will consist of the run-off presentation of the 20 oral finalists. Congressional Leadership Fund is Looking for Fall Interns:

HOBY’s

Rotary Youth Leadership Award:

Every year, the Rotary Club of Moorestown sends up to 10 high school students to Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) to learn leadership skills.  RYLA is a four day intensive leadership training program sponsored by Rotary Club International, designed to teach team-building, problem-solving, cooperation and communication skills, to foster ethical, visionary leaders for the future.  High school students who have demonstrated superior leadership and training skills in their communities are invited to apply for sponsorship to RYLA.  The Rotary Club of Moorestown will cover the majority of the costs.  For more information or to apply to attend, please go to www.RYLA7500.org.  The conference this year is 6/30/18 to 7/3/18 at Monmouth University. CIT Program (Counselor In Training):

If interested, contact Mary Stefano at mstefano@moorestown.nj.us.  Applications will be available starting January 3, 2018 on the Parks & Recreation website for youth 13 to 16 years old and must be submitted by March 9, 2018.  A completed application does NOT guarantee employment.  Once an application is received, it will be reviewed, an interview scheduled, and then a decision will be made.  Interviews will be conducted through April 20th.  Once an applicant is offered a position they may formally register for the program.  Registration for the CIT program will be $75.00.  CITs will be required to be present for all weeks of their respective camps, with a maximum of 5 consecutive days off for a vacation.
  
Summer Employment:
The Department of Parks and Recreation will be collecting applications for Summer Parks, Summer Theatre and Special Needs Counselor positions starting January 3, 2018.  Deadline for applying is March 9, 2018.  Go to http://www.moorestown.nj.us/370/Employment-Information.  Please download, fill out and submit the application to the Department of Parks and Recreation, 111 West Second Street, Moorestown, NJ 08057.  You must be 16 years of age by June 24, 2018 to apply for a paid position.

Digital Design & Fabrication Class Offered at Temple's Tyler School of Art:

Temple University's Tyler School of Art - Continuing Education offers their Digital Design & Fabrication class.  This workshop is structured as an introductory exploration of the applications of digital design and fabrication within the fields of art, architecture and design!  Adults and high school students will have the opportunity to work with 3D printing and laser cutting tools.  This workshop is perfect for those who are excited about trying something new, or interested in investigating how these processes can enhance their current professional skill set.  To register visit REGISTER.  You may also check for more information about High School Weekend Workshops.

Fashion Illustration/Design Workshop at RCBC:
RCBC's Fashion Department is offering a 6-week Fashion Illustration/Design Workshop.  The program takes place on Mondays at the RCBC Mount Holly Campus starting February 26 through April 2, 2018 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  The 6 week program costs $145.  High school students ages 14-17 who are interested in fashion design can learn to illustrate their original designs within a few short weeks and create an illustrated portfolio collection.  This 6-week workshop is beginner level and will start with basic techniques for creating 9-10 head fashion figures and croqui sketching original design ideas.  Using colored pencils, students will learn to render fabric and garment details of their own original designs.  This course is taught by Lisa Steinberg, RCBC Fashion Department Program Coordinator.  To register online, visit rcbc.edu/webadvisor and register as a non-credit student using class code: CFA-128-05.  For more information, please email fashion@rcbc.edu.

11th Annual Martin Luther King Day Challenge, Monday, January 15:

The W.E.B. Bank of America Summer Internship Program:
Every year, through our Student Leaders program we help connect 225 community-minded high school juniors and seniors to employment, skills development and service.  They’re awarded paid summer internships with local nonprofits such as Boys and Girls Clubs of America and participate in a national leadership summit in Washington, D.C.  The Student Leaders Summit focuses on skill building and creating a more civically engaged society.

2018 New Jersey Scholars Program:

The New Jersey Scholars Program (NJSP) is a tuition-free, five-week summer program for students who are residents of New Jersey, United States citizens and rising seniors at the high school level in New Jersey.  Moorestown High School is permitted to submit up to two applications to be determined by the school’s internal process.  This is the first stage of the MHS selection process.  Two candidates will be forwarded to NJSP for selection as semifinalists.  If selected by NJSP as a semifinalist, applicants are invited to participate in a group interview with NJSP.  The Program selects thirty-nine Scholars from among the semifinalists.  Applicants must be able to commit to attend the program from June 24 to July 27, 2018.  Please go to the NJSP website for additional information about this year's topic, "Mind and Body: The Future of Being Human".  You must complete the NJSP Google form to apply.  This form is due by Friday, December 1, 2017.
